Originally from Beaumont, Texas, Robert L. Brickhouse discovered very early in life that he possessed a natural ability to translate the images around him, and in his thought, to paper. Brickhouse attended Lamar University in Beaumont, trying to hone that natural ability, but really came into his own when he relocated to Houston to attend the Texas Art Academy where he later taught. Houston became Brickhouse’s home for the next few decades.

A professional artist for too many years to count, he has devoted the last 20 to painting full-time. Brickhouse retired to the renowned artists’ colony San Migeul de Allende in central Mexico, which inspires him to capture the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. Increasingly, his focus on character studies and the human figure tap into his innate gifts for drawing, as well as painting.

“I love to do figures, especially in Conte crayon and paint, and have a weekly session with a model to satisfy this need.” says Brickhouse. "As for painting, I keep my drawing in my work, and prefer warm, rather than garish tones.”
